        O Drive remapping

        O: Drive Remapping

In preparation for a new network file sharing system ITS will be remapping the O: Drive throughout the week of July 6-9, 2020. Users can confirm with their C-Tech for the specific date that their department will be updated. These changes are necessary to accommodate the growing complexity of access permissions required by our faculty and staff. Users do not need to move any files from the O: Drive as part of the remapping.

The following actions will occur as part of this transition:

        • The O: Drive will be mapped to the new "Departments" folder
        • The “MyUNF” folder on the desktop will contain shortcuts to the new storage share
If you do not see the new settings by July 10, please log off your computer and then log back in. Contact the Help Desk and/or C-tech in your area if needed. Review the O: Drive migration web page for more information.

I drive is moving to OneDrive

        I: Drive Going Away

In order to provide better collaboration with the Office 365 tools, the University is beginning to decommission the I: Drive. On Monday, June 1, 2020, the I: Drive became read only and it is no longer possible to update existing files or save any new files to the drive. In place of the 350 MB I: Drive, UNF faculty and staff now have access to OneDrive which provides 5 Terabytes (5,000,000 MB) of cloud-based space. In addition, OneDrive can be used anywhere, on any device and enables you to easily store and share files with colleagues.

Faculty and staff currently using the I: Drive should copy over any existing files from the I: Drive to their OneDrive account. On September 9, 2020 the I: Drive will be decommissioned permanently.

Identify your operating system below and review the steps needed to relocate files and folders saved in the UNF I: Drive to Microsoft OneDrive.

        Operating Systems

        Updating Personal Device Operating Systems

Maintaining an updated operating system on your personal computer, laptop or mobile device is more important than ever. Changes to web standards and security impact outdated operating systems that are no longer supported by their publisher such as Microsoft, Apple or Google Android. As web services and security standards continue to change – outdated operating systems will experience access and compatibility issues with core UNF services like myWings, Canvas and Office365. Review the upgrade options for your operating system.

        Two-factor Authentication

The University has transitioned to two-factor authentication. The purpose of two-factor authentication is to protect your UNF account and personal information. It adds a step to the login process and after entering your UNF ID and password, it requires you to validate your identity by responding to a prompt using a second factor, like a mobile device. If your UNF password is stolen, your personal information can be viewed or altered and the contents of email, OneDrive, Canvas and many other applications are exposed. Two-factor authentication makes it harder for hackers to gain access to your information. Students, faculty, staff, parents and alumni must use Duo to confirm their identity on all the University's single sign-on applications. Learn more on the two-factor authentication webpage and review the FAQs.

        New UNF-Wireless Network

Information Technology Services has completed Phase 2 of upgrading the wireless network on campus. Phase 3 is now underway in summer 2020. This upgrade significantly increases the reliability and speed associated with the wireless network and ensures that classrooms and other heavily populated areas have the appropriate number of access points to provide the necessary speed and capacity to support wireless devices. View this web page to see the ongoing progress.
